Ramaswamy Venkataraman was a government functionary and counsel who was the President of India from 1987 to 1992. Law and trade exertion led to Venkatraman’s adding association with politics. He was a member of the constituent assembly that drafted India’s Constitution.
He was a member of the Indian Parliamentary Delegation to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in New Zealand. He was also Secretary to the Congress Parliamentary Party from 1953- 1954. He was also the leader of the Upper House, videlicet the Madras Legislative Council.

R Venkataraman’s early life
R Venkataraman was born in R jamadamvill in Tanjore quarter, Madras Presidency.
He studied law and rehearsed in the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court of India.
At a youthful age, he was an activist of the Indian independence movement and shared in the Quit India Movement.

How R Venkataraman contributed to India
Venkatraman studied law at the University of Madras and began his legal practice in 1935. He came involved in India’s independence struggle and was accordingly jugged by the British.
He continued to exercise law and helped draft the Indian Constitution, which was espoused in 1950 after his release.
He was tagged to independent India’s Provisional Parliament in 1950 as a member of the Indian National Congress party.
He was also a member of the Lok Sabha from 1952 to 1977 onwards. He ultimately joined the central government and served as the Minister of Finance and Industry in 1980- 82 and Minister of Defence in 1982- 84.

How did R Venkataraman pass down?
R Venkataraman was admitted to the Army Sanitarium with complaints of Urosepsis on January 12, 2009.
His condition grew critical on January 20 when he was detected with low blood pressure.
Venkataraman failed at the Army Hospital, New Delhi, on January 27, 2009, due to multiple organ failure at the age of 98.
Since he failed just one day after Republic Day, some of the programs coinciding with it were canceled to mark respect towards the late former President.
